Grant-writing team openings, University of Nebraska-Lincoln

If the answer is yes, the Office of Research and Economic Development at the University of Nebraska‐Lincoln (UNL) invites you to apply for a position within its Office of Proposal Development (OPD) at one of two levels: 1) Proposal Development Specialist (entry‐level) or 2) Proposal Development Coordinator (mid‐level). Multiple hires are possible, and successful candidates will join an experienced team of dedicated, client‐focused professionals providing proposal development support to UNL faculty, administrators, and staff.


Proposal Development Specialists and Coordinators contribute valuable communication and editing expertise to the UNL research enterprise. Team members in these positions edit the narrative components of grant proposals to ensure compliance with sponsor guidelines and to improve content, clarity, organization, and visual appeal. Staff in these positions work with single investigator and small group grant proposals and provide editorial support for team members managing large complex projects.


Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or a relevant scientific discipline. Candidates with an anticipated graduation date in May, 2018, will be considered. In addition, competitive candidates will be:

  • effective communicators who can identify the best approach to reach different audiences and produce communications based on that understanding;
  • capable of building strong relationships and delivering client‐focused solutions;
  • nimble in approach and demeanor and able to satisfy the fluid demands of project or proposal development as well as the work styles of diverse individuals and teams;
  • selfless team‐players who are energized by work in a fast‐paced, collaborative setting; and
  • creative, dedicated, accountable, and invested in the land‐grant university mission.

Salaries in OPD are competitive. Specialists earn $40,000 to $55,000 per year, and Coordinators earn $55,000 to $75,000 annually. Compensation and level of position will be determined at time of hire based on candidate qualifications and experience. OPD team members benefit from a tiered staffing structure that provides a clear, established pathway for professional growth and advancement.

The media production product manager is responsible for overseeing the successful completion of all video and multimedia productions and projects for internal and external clients of the Communication Research Institute (CRI) of William Penn. Summer PR internship, On With Life

On With Life, a non-profit brain injury rehabilitation organization, is looking for a Public Relations and Events intern for summer 2018. This opportunity is great for experienced students who want to lend their time and talent to a worthwhile cause. This internship will provide a unique experience with hands-on learning at On With Life. Interns with the following backgrounds are ideal for the position: Event Management, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or working toward a nonprofit emphasis.  This internship will be full-time and paid and will work to provide college credit, if needed. Summer internships at Iowa Secretary of State

1. Summer Social Media/Multimedia Projects Internship

 This internship at the Iowa Secretary of State’s office would consist of managing the social media and online presence, content production and marketing for multiple projects.

 The internship is for the Summer Semester of 2018, however it may start earlier and there is possibility of renewal if desired.

  • Monitoring and Management of multiple social media pages 
  • Regular content production including but not limited to images, copy and video
  • Planning out long term strategy and content calendars for social media
  • Keeping track of and responding to constituent interactions

 Experience in videography and graphic design programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Apple Final Cut Pro, or Adobe Premiere preferred.

Background in Marketing, Political Science, Communications, Graphic Design, or Journalism is a plus.

2. Summer 2018 Business Services Communications Internship

With the Secretary of State’s Office being the small business portal of Iowa, we must celebrate the importance of entrepreneurs and small business owners. The Business Services Intern is responsible for contacting small businesses to create entrepreneurship related content for the Iowa Secretary of State’s social media pages. Additional responsibilities include assisting office manager with business services work and organizational tasks.

Creating social media content promoting entrepreneurship and Iowa small business

  • Interviewing small businesses
  • Organization of our social media content calendars
  • Creating content and managing the Secretary of State’s LinkedIn page
  • Entering new business services accounts

Internships available at Vote Smart

Vote Smart, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization near campus, is accepting and interviewing applicants for its Spring Internship Program. Opportunities are available in both the Research and Communications departments. Internships are unpaid, but there are opportunities for interns to learn the day-to-day duties that each staff member performs, as well as credit opportunities through Drake. Spring internships, World Food Prize

The World Food Prize in Des Moines has openings for its Awards Management and Symposium Planning Interns for the duration of the 2018 spring semester.

Each academic semester and summer, a select group of highly qualified undergraduate and graduate students are chosen for the George Washington Carver (GWC) Internship program, which provides interns with the opportunity to take significant responsibility and initiative in planning and carrying out a wide range of the Foundation’s projects.

“Interns at the World Food Prize play an absolutely indispensable role in the planning and implementation of all World Food Prize programs,” said Ambassador Kenneth M. Quinn, president of the World Food Prize Foundation. “The success of our upcoming Borlaug Dialogue symposium, youth education programs, and Laureate Announcement is dependent on their input and performance.”

The Awards Management intern will work one-on-one with the Director of Secretariat Operations on preparing World Food Prize nominations and Borlaug Field Award nominations to present to the respective selection committees composed of international experts; prepare written material about World Food Prize laureates and Borlaug Field Award recipients; work on updating database information related to the Foundation’s awards processes; other duties related to arrangements for the annual Borlaug Dialogue International Symposium.

Furthermore, the Symposium Planning Intern will work one-on-one with the Director of Planning on the preparation and logistics leading up to the Laureate Announcement Ceremony, which takes place each year in Washington, D.C.; research issues related to food insecurity in preparation for the Borlaug Dialogue International Symposium in the Fall; other duties related to arrangements for the annual Borlaug Dialogue.

“Interning with the WFP is a unique experience because of the level of hands-on work each intern contributes to the organization. I gained a large amount of valuable, practical skills that will definitely give me a leg up in my future career,” said Madeline Cheek, the previous 2017 GWC Intern. “This position allowed me to see how a large-scale organization operates from the inside, and I got the opportunity to network with many influential contributors to the food security cause from around the world.”
