The Insider Editor has a desk at the legislature and works there much of the year. The Insider Editor has responsibility for the Insider newsletter’s daily news package, writing original news reports and directing the efforts of the Insider’s news team while coordinating with the state news desk of The News & Observer. The Insider Editor also writes a column on state government and politics that appears in newspapers across the state.

How much and what kind of experience is required?
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism or related field. Qualified journalists will have 10 years experience in a professional news setting, and will have demonstrated exceptional reporting, writing and editing skills. Knowledge of the legislative process in general, and of North Carolina politics in particular, is strongly desired. Experience working in a new-media environment and working in multiple publishing platforms a plus. Must be familiar with AP style and able to work independently to produce clean copy under deadline.
