Executive director, Iowa International Center

The Executive Director (ED) manages the programs and staff of the Iowa International Center (IIC). This position will oversee 3 core staff members, one part-time accounting assistant plus interns. The ED will be the face of the organization in the community and will be the primary person in charge of donor relationships. THE ED will report to the Executive Committee of the IIC Board of Directors.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the IIC board to collaboratively implement the mission, goals, policies and activities of the organization
  • Recruit, hire, on-board and manage IIC staff
  • Prepare annual budget and provide financial accountability to the board. Work with CPA on annual audit
  • Oversee the programs of IIC including our international visitor programs, Interpretation and Translation Services, English-As-A-Second Language Classes, Welcome to Iowa website, 24/7 Emergency Interpretation Hotline, and the cultural education program known as the IIC Dialogue Series
  • Oversee planning, sponsorship and execution of major event, Passport to Prosperity
  • Coordinate donor relations and fundraising, closely collaborating with the IIC board.
  • Develop and Maintain relationships with high-level donors, including corporate sponsors
  • Coordinate board meeting agendas and reporting with the IIC Executive Committee
  • Set organizational priorities and manage resource allocation.
  • Ensure non-profit governance of the organization
  • Oversee management of the office, including the lease, IT and furniture
  • Assist Board with member recruitment

The Executive Director reports to the IIC Executive Committee and works closely with the Board of Directors

Qualifications

  • Must have a proven track record of building relationships with the Des Moines donor community
  • 7+ years of non-profit management experience or related business leadership experience
  • Experience in hiring, developing and coaching a team of 3 to 5 people (including interns)
  • Must be a self-starter
  • Track record of fundraising and development
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in event planning
  • Previous experience working in a diverse cultural or international organization would be ideal
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office products [emphasis on Word, Excel and PowerPoint] as well as donor relation software


Anticipated hours per week: 40

Location: Downtown Des Moines, Iowa
Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience
