Reporter/designer (Fergus Falls, MN)

Interested in working where people take vacations? Come join us in the Lakes Country of Minnesota.

The Daily Journal in beautiful Fergus Falls is a daily newspaper in a place with a great sense of community. The city is the seat of a county with 1,076 lakes. Fergus Falls alone has 10 lakes. The state’s eighth-longest river runs through its center. The community is known for quality schools, too.

We have a motivated news staff that works well together and makes a great team and strives for and wins awards. Our team needs that final piece of the puzzle — you.

We seek a person good with page design, able to write stories and is interested in becoming a managing editor someday. We need a person who understands the importance of a relationship with our community, too. Will you help us reach the next level of quality? Our goal is to be the best in the state. Our publisher has 20 years of news experience and enjoys coaching the staff.

Candidates should have experience using Adobe InDesign or Quark XPress, whether for a student or weekly paper or another daily. They should have familiarity with WordPress and social media.

We are a six-day-per-week afternoon newspaper with niche products such as a monthly newspaper for lake dwellers and a magazine. Our region is popular for outdoor activities, from golfing, fishing, swimming and water skiing to walking and biking trails, concerts and other entertainment.

The position offers paid vacation, health and dental insurance, a flexible spending account for medical expenses, sick leave, paid holidays, a generous holiday bonus and a 401k.

Please email a cover letter, resume and examples of your work to Tim Engstrom at tim.engstrom@fergusfallsjournal.com with the subject line “Page Designer.”
