Communications Intern, Hoover Pres. Library

The Hoover Presidential Foundation is seeking a summer intern to assist with story development and writing, media relations, event planning and other duties as assigned. Interns will be exposed to multiple facets of strategic communications. The applicant may choose from part time, 20 hours min. per week, from March 1 through August 23, or full time, 40 hours min. per week from end of classes through August 23. Actual dates are flexible with your school release dates. Some weekend and evening hours will be needed. Payment will be in the form of a $3,900 stipend, paid on the last day of the month in appropriate installments.

Expected duties:

  • Research and write a minimum of three feature-length stories for American Road membership publication
  • Assist with promotion of the largest exhibit ever at the Hoover Presidential Library- Museum through earned media efforts and social media management
  • Assist with planning and promotion of Hoover’s Hometown Days annual event, including assistance with media buying, press relations, and event management including the annual Hoover-Ball National Championships. Work with volunteers, sponsors, vendors and others to recruit teams, gain publicity and operate a successful event
  • Assist with the planning and promotion of the Foundation at the Iowa State Fair, including public relations work at the Fair and with occasional parades we will participate in
  • Basic photography skills for web and newsprint, possible video shoots
  • Must be able to meet business/professional dress code; no visible tattoos or piercings (excluding common ear piercing)

  • Experience supporting a membership-based non-profit organization,
  • Experience developing and working a strategic communications plan,
  • A variety of still photography images and possibly video
