The award-winning Fergus Falls Daily Journal has an opportunity for an organized and creative journalist with reporting skills and experience using Adobe InDesign or QuarkXPress.

The Journal — a healthy, six-day-per-week newspaper with a local market penetration of more than 48 percent — is looking to hire an ambitious journalist able to manage his or her time, write compelling and tight stories, and create well-designed, eye-catching pages. The ideal applicant will have excellent grammar and writing skills, and at least one year experience using InDesign or Quark, including college newspaper jobs and internships. We’re looking for a journalist who thrives under a tight deadline and eagerly reports and disseminates news in multiple formats, including newsprint, web, magazine and social media.

The person we hire will also build a social media presence and expand his or her photography skills. (Photography experience is not necessary, just a willingness to learn.)

Recent J-school graduates — or those who graduate this semester — with internship, daily, weekly or college newspaper experience are encouraged to apply.

Fergus Falls offers small town amenities and is a hotbed for outdoor activity, from golfing, fishing, swimming and water skiing, to walking and biking trails, concerts and myriad other entertainment. It’s the largest city in resort-centric Otter Tail County, which claims more than 1,000 of Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes. Fergus Falls is about an hour from Fargo, North Dakota, and two-and-a-half hours from Minneapolis-St. Paul.

The full-time position is perfect for a journalist in the dawn of his or her career looking to build a repertoire of clips, from spot, crime and political news, to magazine features and plenty of enterprise reporting. The reporter we hire will also build a social media presence and expand his or her photography skills. (Photography experience is not necessary, just a willingness to learn.)
