Marketing Intern for fall for Greater Des Moines CVB

The Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau is looking for a Marketing Intern. This individual will be part of a dynamic marketing team and have the opportunity to be involved with virtually all aspects of our marketing efforts.

Opportunities are available for the Fall 2014 semester.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate student working toward a degree in communications, marketing, public relations or related field
  • Creativity, originality and the desire to work as part of a fast-paced Marketing Team
  • Possess excellent research, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to assume a variety of responsibilities and projects and follow them through to completion with little supervision
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and social media are a bonus
  • Passion to learn about, explore and experience Greater Des Moines

Internship benefits:

  • Develop an understanding of the tourism industry and how it relates to the components of Marketing, Communications, Sales and Servicing  and Sports events
  • Gain a greater understanding of the responsibility and impact of social media, especially within non-profit organizations
  • Gain a better knowledge of databases and how to best utilize them
  • Exposure to developing, researching and implementing Marketing and Promotional Plans
  • Receive college credit (when applicable, as determined by your school)
  • Develop strong contacts in the Greater Des Moines market
  • Be part of some of Greater Des Moines’ biggest, most successful events
  • Obtain recommendations and references
  • Receive a monthly stipend payment

Duties and tasks: (list is not inclusive)

  • Write weekly and monthly television and radio scripts to promote Greater Des Moines events
  • Assist with design projects (banners, postcards, flyers, web graphics, etc)
  • Make updates to Restaurant Guide, Private Dining Guide, Wedding Guide and other Marketing Partner documents
  • Take photos at events and attractions around Greater Des Moines to boost our photo database
  • Assist with social media posts
  • Update and proof publications (dependent on semester), including the Catch Des Moines Visitor Guide and Planner’s Guide
  • Assist with promotional giveaway fulfillment, monthly report and filing
  • Attend Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau events
  • Other duties as assigned
