Reporter, Des Moines Register

The Des Moines Register seeks a talented journalist with strong digital and social media skills to fill a statewide education reporting post, covering issues at all levels – from preschool through high school as well as reporting on two important Central Iowa school districts.

The successful candidate must be able to cover multiple organizations and issues as well as excel at writing breaking news and classroom features with authority and have a proven track record in high impact watchdog reporting.   The successful candidate must also be able to cover the education beat across multiple platforms including shooting video, blogging, tweeting and engaging audiences through social media while producing long-term enterprise stories.

Des Moines is Iowa’s rapidly growing capital city, with a downtown in the midst of a

building boom. There’s also a downtown sculpture garden and skating rink; riverwalk and recreational trails that connect with others Central Iowa trails, and a blossoming urban neighborhood of lofts, shops and restaurants. Yet it remains a comfortably sized metro area with reasonable commutes.

A bachelor’s degree and  three to five years of journalism experience covering education required.  Digital experience required.  Please include five to seven samples of your published work.
