Development Intern with American Lung Association

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION: To work with the American Lung Association staff to implement signature events and engage participants across the state of Iowa.

REPORTS TO: Special Events Manager

POSITION GOALS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Gain a basic understanding of the American Lung Association & nonprofit operations
o Become knowledgeable about Iowa mission-driven programs and Signature Special Events
o Participate in staff meetings and webinar learning opportunities
o Understand branding guidelines and implementation
o Create portfolio upon completion of internship

• Special Events
o Assist with volunteer communication, outreach, and recruitment
o Create, disseminate and manage marketing and promotion
o Utilize internet & traditional marketing resources to advertise event (social media)
o Assist in securing in-kind donations
o Assist with mailings
o Assist with data entry
o Assist special event coordinator in event participant troubleshooting
o Coordinate the thank you letters, recognition for sponsors, contributors, participants & volunteers
o Recruitment, coaching and thank you phone calls

Un-Paid Internship Position
Schedule, 10-12 Hours/week minimum
Available to attend Fight for Air Climb (March 16, 2014) event

QUALIFICATIONS
Non–smoker
Strong writing skills
Computer Proficiency – Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Publisher
Comfortable speaking to patients, volunteers, & sponsors
