Fellingham Internship at Special Olympics Iowa

Special Olympics Iowa is accepting applications for The Fellingham Internship, a full-time position designed to further the intern’s professional development through meaningful and varied experiences in a successful nonprofit organization.
Duties include:
Marketing Communications
 Assist Director of Communications with various activities including preparing promotional materials or marketing campaigns, preparing news releases, marketing reports and research activities.
 Assist with social media such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. Update and maintain posting schedule using Hootsuite.
 Assist with coordinating information and news for the SOIA Website.
 Pitch story ideas to media in markets across Iowa.
 Track and maintain media stories for the media archive book.
 Manage details for the 2014 Spread the Word to End the Word campaign including details for the booth and visit to the State Capitol in Des Moines.
 Assist with coordinating details for the Special Olympics Iowa day with the Iowa Energy Basketball team.
 Generate newsletter copy and other promotions using Constant Contact.
Development
 Assist in securing corporate sponsorships
 Provide support for Polar Plunges taking place in six markets across Iowa.
 Assist with fundraising events and donor stewardship
Other
 Additional assistance with general office correspondence, mailings, etc.
 Other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications: Senior level student or graduate from an Iowa college or university within the past year (December 2012-May 2014). The ideal candidate must have a 3.0 GPA or higher, excellent written and verbal communication skills, good organizational and time management skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. The internship will be completed in accordance with the policies and procedures of the intern’s academic institution. Length of appointment: 15 – 16 weeks with the expectation the student will commit to a minimum of 40 hours per week. Some weekend work will be required with various events. Starting date and duration: January to May. Starting dates TBD once an offer is made to the candidate. Stipend: $2,000 per month
