Communications Internships

Two interns/students are sought for the City of Des Moines Public Information Office, which is responsible for the city’s media relations, DMTV Cable Channel and the City Source Newsletter.  Interns have the opportunity to work on a range of projects in the involving writing for publications, script development, video cameras and editing, video production, television graphic work.  This is a professional business environment and business/casual dress is required. Office hours are 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, generally.

Training is provided to teach interns to perform the following:

  1. Writing for Print and TV
  2. Broadcast Switching for LIVE broadcasts
  3. Set up and breakdown of equipment on video shoots in studio and in the field
  4. General office work and General archive filing of DVDs
  5. Some lifting of video equipment is required
  6. Graphic Slide Development
  7. Public Service Announcement Scripts

Students with videographer skills have the opportunity to shoot video for some city programs. Other general office duties as assigned by Chief Communications Officer.

LICENSE OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility is a plus but a NOT requirement FOR INTERNS
