The Video Journalist has general responsibility for accurate, relevant and timely news coverage for online and on-air audiences with emphasis on visual presentation.  This position involves solid news judgment, visual storytelling, use of several news coverage tools, ability to lead news coverage, and competence to work as a self-contained, self-sufficient professional journalist.

Duties include, but are not limited to: news coverage responsibilities for all available media, knowledge of the community, story idea generation, live news coverage, fact gathering, attribution, writing, reporting, video recording & editing, objectivity, interviewing, story/topic research, story set-up, stand-ups, driving, transporting equipment and using it for news coverage, computer/internet ability, typing ability, competence with various news gathering tools.

Qualifications include:

Media-related bachelor’s degree or equivalent job experience in journalism. Strong ability to cover news independently, able to get video/audio, edit, write and report accurately and creatively under deadline pressure.  Understanding of newsroom operations and professional news gathering/news coverage practices, including ability to interact positively with people. Must maintain a permanent residence within 30 minutes of station and meet physical requirements of the position. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.  A valid driver’s license is required.

• Creates videos to be used to support Sales efforts throughout CDS Global.
• Creats videos to support CDS Global Training and Recruitment efforts.
• Assists in electronic rebrand effort, including CG treatment of logo and image.

Required Skills

Hospice of Central Iowa is looking for an intern to assist us about 10-20 hours per week in our department, Business Development and Communications. Given our non-profit status, we are unable to provide a paid internship. However, we can offer a wealth of experience for those looking for an “in” during a tight job market, including pieces for a portfolio.

We aim to provide a well-rounded experience in public relations and design. Opportunities for the right candidate include: writing/designing for our publications, writing news/feature stories for our outlying offices, coordinating radio interviews, assisting with television pitches, updating our Web site, coordinating our Speakers Bureau functions, maintaining community event calendar, etc. The candidate will have copies of his/her articles published in local newspapers and of designed materials.

The Traffic/Copy Assistant has general responsibility for scheduling the correct commercials with the appropriate order and for maintaining the inventory of all commercial material. The Traffic/Copy Assistant is also responsible for assisting the local sales staff when needed.                                     .

Duties include, but are not limited to: Maintaining a current inventory of advertiser’s commercials, processing Production Orders and Traffic Information forms, receiving all commercials coming into the station and taking appropriate action for said spot. Must work with advertisers and agencies to insure that all instructions and spots are received prior to airing. Instruct all commercials accurately and run daily logs.  The Traffic/Copy Assistant is also responsible for preparing various sales reports and assisting the Sales staff when needed. Will also provide backup for other departments as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include:

Education:

• Minimum of high school diploma (prefer at least twelve months post-high school education).
• Formalized training in the operation of computer equipment.
• Prior job experience of at least one year in television, radio or cable is preferred.

Skills and Technical Ability:

• Organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently as necessary.

Personal Characteristics:

• Must be able to work quickly and accurately under deadlines and be able to prioritize workload.

Be part of the team that coordinates all marketing, advertising and public relations efforts for the Iowa State Fair, Iowa’s largest event annually attracting more than 1 million visitors. The Fair is currently seeking interns who are looking for hands-on experience in all areas of implementing a strategic marketing campaign. Two positions available.

Responsibilities

Duties include drafting news releases/advertising copy, statewide dissemination of news releases/advertising materials, preparing materials for web site, coordinating social media initiatives, customer relations, coordinating consumer displays and exhibits, graphic design, editing, proofreading, compiling daily schedules, clerical, etc. Writing skills strongly emphasized.

Qualifications

Applicant must demonstrate knowledge of desktop publishing, excellent grammar and punctuation skills and ability to work under deadline pressures. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite a plus. Candidate should be energetic, detail-oriented and dedicated.
