The candidate we’re looking for would work 6-10 hours per week during school months with the potential of additional hours during the summer months.

Responsibilities Include:
Assisting in artwork preparation for client proofing and orders processing
Communicating with clients regarding graphics details
Communicating with vendors regarding graphics guidelines
Collaboration with the Carrie (owner) on idea generation for clients
Assisting in all aspects of the order process and fulfillment.

Skills Include:
Must be knowledge on how to convert a jpg into a vector art eps file
Prefer experience on Corel Draw (or be fast at learning)

Work quickly and efficiently under little supervision

Hours:

Milwaukee Magazine, an award-winning city magazine, is searching for an
assistant editor. The magazine publishes profiles, reader service,
investigative and in-depth background features as well as dining and
entertainment stories. This is an entry-level magazine editing job with
varied print and Web duties. The assistant editor will edit blogs and serve
as the Web editor, maintaining the website on a daily basis, and will also
edit and write short (200 to 800 words) front-of-book stories and compile
the calendar.

The publication is small enough that the assistant editor will have input
into editorial planning and opportunities to write feature stories.

The magazine is located in a vibrant downtown of a revitalized Midwestern
city and serves the entire metro area.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a four-year degree, experience with
magazine-style writing and editing, good reporting skills, a strong grasp
of AP Style, social networking skills and an understanding of how to upload

NYU Journalism Hyperlocal Newsroom Summer Academy

Applications go live on Feb. 1 for New York University’s Hyperlocal Summer Academy in New York City’s East Village. Although the application process has not gone live yet, we wanted to take a second to give you a glimpse into what summer in the East Village is like for an Academy student.

A good place to start is The Village Beat, which is the site created specifically for Hyperlocal students. One student last summer found herself scouring the East Village for vegan desserts to write about for a story. Check out Olivia’s work.

We aim to acquaint students with the East Village as much as possible during their time here at NYU. To do that, Academy participants will see, as they did last summer, such shows as Stomp, Blue Man Group, and Monday Night Magic – one of NYC’s longest-running magic shows. One student, Emily, captured the wonderful experience.

Wick Communications Co. Editorial Internships 2012

Wick Communications Co. is dedicated to the advancement of the journalism profession in community newspapers. This internship program will begin in the summer of 2012. Internships will be available for newsroom positions. These will include reporters, photographers, and/ or graphic/page designers.

All internships will be paid and the intern will be expected to be a contributing member of the newsroom staff. This will be an excellent opportunity to gain hands on experience covering the local community.

Mentors will be assigned to each intern. The mentor will coach the intern through on the job training and the practical application of their academic training.

Wick Internship Program

Wick will have a limited number of internships available for the summer of 2012. The location of each is to be determined by the Wick Internship Committee. Applicants must be ready to locate to any of the Wick sites although the applicant’s location preference will be considered. (See the Wick locations at www.wickcommunciations.com)

The internship will be for up to 10 weeks based on the availability of the intern.

Interns will be paid $9 per hour ($360 per week) and overtime. The interns will not qualify for benefits due to their short tenure.

A travel allowance of up to $400 will be provided to and from the location of the internship if necessary. The company is not responsible for an intern’s personal vehicle and or personal vehicle expenses.

A living expense allowance of $500 per month will be provided if necessary. This will be limited to three months and prorated as necessary.

Applicants must be Journalism majors and must have completed their freshman year by the summer break of 2011.

Preference will be given to candidates who have worked on the campus newspaper or previous newspaper internships.

The senior vice president of the Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars will be on campus this Thursday and Friday, Jan. 26-27. The Washington Center is a nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C., that offers a semester-long academic internship experience for students from across the country. The Washington Center also organizes a series of shorter academic seminars coinciding with special events (like the party conventions and presidential inaugurations) or meeting in January (for example, special January seminars have covered media and politics, national security, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict). Journalism and communications majors at the graduate and undergraduate level who are of Greek American heritage may apply for annual scholarships given in the amount of $5,000 in memory of Peter Agris, the late founder and publisher of The Hellenic Chronicle. The non-renewable grants have been offered by the Alpha Omega Council of New England and the Agris family for the last two decades.

Criteria for candidates includes: Greek American heritage; current full-time enrollment as a journalism or communications major at the graduate or undergraduate level in an accredited college or university in the United States; active participation in school, community, church organizations; a minimum of a 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need.

CFI is seeking a student majoring in communications for an Advocacy and Communications Intern. This position will be part of the Foundation, which consists of nine employees responsible for raising awareness and funds for the agency. As part of the Communications Team, this person will work under the Communications Coordinator to promote legislative issues that are most pressing for the agency. The primary focus will be on childcare and support for the working poor. This person will utilize CitizenSpeak.org to increase awareness and discussion around these important issues.

Work with Executive Director and VP Advocacy to create appropriate audience base
Create a timeline for appropriate topics and messages
Manage account following set timeline

Video Production Internship

The Iowa League of Cities seeks a summer intern for a project-based internship to edit and produce the League’s All-Star Community Award videos. Work begins in May 2012 and concludes August 15, 2012. Must have flexible schedule as project includes week-day travel. Must provide own audio/video equipment and computer/software as production will take place outside the League office.

The following outlines the role, responsibilities and expectations for the Iowa League of Cities All-Star Community Award internship: • Perform and complete videography services in connection with the League’s All-Star Com- munity Awards project. • Project begins around May 1 and will need to be completed by August 15. • Project consists of the preparation of four to five videos, totaling about 18 minutes in length. • Each video will include audio and visual elements. • Accompany the League’s communications coordinator on trips to the winning cities. The communications coordinator will conduct all interviews with winning cities and will handle all correspondence with winning cities. • Provide the equipment to record the video and audio of all interviews and information for the videos, and will use his/her own time and equipment to complete the videos. • Work with the League’s communications coordinator to complete the process in a timely and mutually agreed upon fashion. • Final videos produced will be the property of the League and of the intern, with both parties having the right to use the final product as they see fit without the consent of the other party. • Provide the League with multiple copies of the videos and raw footage on DVDs. An elec- tronic copy of the video, which can be posted online, will also need to be provided. • Should have a valid driver’s license. Although he/she probably won’t be driving a League vehicle, this is a precaution in case of emergency.
Compensation: • Total payment is $1,800. Late penalties and on-time incentives could affect the amount of the final compensation amount. The first $900 will be paid after filming is complete, and the final payment will be made upon satisfactory completion and delivery of the videos.
Draft Timeline of Project • Intern application deadline: 3/15 • Intern selected: on or around 4/1 • Winning cities chosen: April • Cities notified: April • All-Star Site Visit Dates Set: 5/4 • Site Visits/Filming Complete: ideally 6/30 (1st payment issued) • First Draft of Videos Complete and reviewed by League: three weeks after each site visit • Second Draft of Videos to League for review: 7/20 • Videos Completed: 8/15 Timeline will be finalized by and agree-upon by the Intern and the Communications Coordi- nator.

The Iowa Parkinson Disease Information and Referral Center is looking for an intern to assist with the publication of its magazine for Parkinson’s patients and their caregiver’s called Live It! magazine. The internship would include writing/ researching for articles, story/issue ideas, and tasks related to that of a managing editor. This is a magazine the first of its kind within Iowa enjoyed by a readership of over 3,000.
