Description: Public relations interns provide support for public relations functions of the University, including media relations, special events, social media and publications/web writing. Job responsibilities include writing features for electronic newsletters, social media strategizing and implementation, writing press releases and event planning. Student may have interaction with multiple audiences, both internal and external, as well as vendors and independent contractors. Outcomes of student work routinely extend to key University constituencies – e.g. students, faculty and staff, alumni, etc.
Requirements: The position requires knowledge and/or experience in public relations, promotional writing, media relations, marketing, collateral development, social media strategy and management, and exposure to writing for web-based communications. Candidates must possess strong writing ability and knowledge of AP style. The successful student will possess strong work ethic, commitment to quality and accuracy, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks requiring independent judgment. Students should also be able to work collaboratively and productively in fast-paced environment serving multiple internal clients. Students frequently must meet tight and multiple deadlines and must be able to maintain confidentiality of University information. Candidates should demonstrate maturity in dealing with clients, external audiences, news media and confidential University information.
